XHIXHA

Helidon Xhixha is a contemporary Albanian artist and sculptor, born in Durrës in 1970, known for his monumental works made primarily of polished stainless steel that interact with light and the surrounding space. His reflective sculptures transform their environment, creating visual effects that change depending on the viewer’s perspective and lighting conditions. Raised in a family with a strong artistic tradition, Xhixha showed an early interest in the visual arts; he studied at the Academy of Arts in Tirana and later moved to Italy to attend the Brera Academy in Milan, where he further developed his skills in painting and sculpture. In the following years, he also attended courses at Kingston University in London, expanding his expertise in sculpture, engraving, and photography. His work focuses on the transformation of light through matter: his reflective steel surfaces capture and mirror the surrounding environment, establishing a dialogue between sculpture, light, and viewer. The perceived lightness of his works often contrasts with their physical mass, making them both monumental and dynamic. Over the course of his international career, Xhixha has exhibited in numerous prestigious venues worldwide, including installations at the Venice Biennale—such as floating works in the lagoon—as well as participation in major events like the London Design Biennale, and solo exhibitions and public commissions in cities including Miami, Monaco, London, Florence, and Pietrasanta; today, his sculptures are part of major public and private collections across several continents, confirming his significant impact on the global contemporary art scene.
