ALIK CAVALIERE

Alik Cavaliere was born in Rome in 1926 and moved to Milan in 1938, the city where his artistic career would develop. He grew up in a culturally vibrant environment, the son of a poet and a sculptor—factors that deeply influenced his sensibility. After studying at the Brera Academy under Francesco Messina, he came into contact with major figures of Italian sculpture such as Marino Marini and Giacomo Manzù. From the outset, however, he chose an independent path, avoiding adherence to defined movements. His work is characterized by the use of diverse materials—metal, plastic, wood, glass—combined into complex structures that often take on an installation dimension. His works are not limited to being observed; they invite the viewer to enter the space, making them an active participant in the experience. Themes such as the relationship between humans and nature, freedom, and irony run throughout his production. Alongside his artistic activity, Cavaliere also played an important role as a teacher and director of the Brera Academy. He died in Milan in 1998, leaving behind a body of work that is difficult to classify but highly influential.
